  • Multimode excitation of exchange spin waves in epitaxial ferrite-dielectric structures

by Vladimir Vasilievich Tikhonov, Andrey Ptashenko, Alexandr Sadovnikov

Microwave transmission through an epitaxial yttrium iron garnet film shows multiple oscillatory contributions within the surface-magnetostatic-wave (MSSW) band and an additional response below its lower frequency boundary, near the uniform FMR frequency. We compare these observations with spin-wave-resonance (SWR) spectra and an exchange-inclusive waveguide model. The resolved SWR resonances are consistent with a family of volume exchange spin-wave modes described by the pinned/free boundary-value problem. The below-cutoff response is an unusual feature outside the reference MSSW band and motivates an exchange-based interpretation, but the transmission data alone do not uniquely establish a surface-mode assignment. Its frequency range is represented by phenomenological evanescent curves, not eigenmodes of the pinned/free problem. The model is used for a qualitative, experiment-led interpretation; because it omits dissipative losses and crystalline anisotropy, it is not intended to quantitatively reproduce the full transmission spectra.

  • Super-resolution phenomenon induced by surface spin-wave diffraction through a hole in in-plane magnetized YIG film

    by E. H. Lock, S. V. Gerus, A. Yu. Annenkov, A. S. Ptashenko, A. B. Khutieva, S. E. Sheshukova, A. V. Sadovnikov

Diffraction of a surface spin wave by a through hole formed inside the in-plane magnetized yttrium iron garnet (YIG) film is investigated both experimentally and theoretically for the case where the hole diameter is significantly smaller than the wavelength. The study reveals a super-resolution and super-directional propagation phenomenon characterized by the formation of a distinct shadow trace from the hole in the spin-wave profile. This shadow is elongated at a long distance from the hole. This occurs along the directions of super-directional wave propagation, corresponding to the inflection points of the isofrequency curve. Theoretical predictions show excellent agreement with experimental observations of super-directional magnon beams engineered by anisotropic dispersion in YIG and are further validated by micromagnetic simulations. The observed formation and splitting of spin-wave beams, along with the extended non-diffracted beam propagation distance, highlight the potential application of these effects in spin-wave multiplexers for magnonic logic devices.

  • Nanomedicine-Mediated Immunotherapy for Cancer Treatment

by Wei Hou, Wen Qi Song, Rui Xue Zhang, Maria V. Lomova, Alexandr V. Sadovnikov, Yu Jun Song

Since the dawn of the 21st century, the convergence of interdisciplinary fields─including life sciences, nanotechnology, and information technology─propels pharmaceuticals and healthcare into a period of rapid transformation. This paradigm shift catalyzes the emergence of innovative medical technologies. Immuno-oncology plays a pivotal role in cancer therapeutics. However, most patients derive limited benefits from currently available immunotherapies, while many experience immune-related adverse events (irAEs). Consequently, significant research efforts focus on developing nanomedicines that attenuate immunosuppression within the tumor microenvironment (TME) or enhance immune-cell-mediated tumor recognition and cytotoxicity. This review outlines nanomedicine-mediated immunotherapeutic strategies against tumors. Such novel approaches function as monotherapies or synergize with conventional oncology treatments to achieve superior therapeutic outcomes. Nanomedicine offers a transformative framework for precision cancer therapy through rational design principles that integrate tumor-specific characteristics and in vivo kinetics of drug transport. These advances hold promise for augmenting existing treatments and expanding therapeutic options for cancer patients. Finally, we critically analyze current challenges and depict the future directions in nanomedicine-driven immunotherapy, aiming to harness the immune system effectively against malignancies and ultimately expand the oncologist’s armamentarium.

Spin wave propagation in a cross-shaped microwave guides made of yttrium iron garnet film with magnetic cylinders

    by F. E. Garanin, A. V. Sadovnikov, M. V. Lomova

This study explores the application of spin waves for developing functional components for information processing, transmission, and storage within the microwave and terahertz frequency regimes. The platform is based on yttrium iron garnet thin films, with spin wave manipulation achieved via two-dimensional arrays of magnetite cylinders. A numerical micromagnetic analysis of a cross-shaped waveguide was conducted by solving the Landau-Lifshitz-Gilbert equation, examining the dependence of wave properties on the orientation of the external magnetic field. The findings indicate a viable pathway toward the realization of compact and energy-efficient magnonic devices.

  • Resonant T-Junction Magnonic Structure as a Frequency-Selective Spin-Wave Mode Converter

by Andrey Grachev, Andrey Ptashenko, Alexey V Ognev, Alexandr Sadovnikov

We demonstrate a frequency-selective intermodal spin-wave mode converter based on a T-shaped yttrium iron garnet (YIG) waveguide with a central square resonator. Using Brillouin light scattering spectroscopy and micromagnetic simulations, we show that excitation of a specific magnetostatic surface spin wave (MSSW) mode in the input arm leads to selective generation of a backwardvolume magnetostatic spin wave (BVMSW) mode of different transverse order in the orthogonal output arm. This intermodal conversion arises from resonant coupling mediated by the central cavity and is governed by the dispersion asymmetry between the waveguide arms. The device enables programmable signal routing for magnonic logic and reconfigurable microwave filtering.

  • Switching of an Antiferromagnet Controlled by Spin Canting in a Laser-Induced Hidden Phase

    by A. V. Kuzikova, N. A. Liubachko, S. N. Barilo, A. V. Sadovnikov, R. V. Pisarev, A. M. Kalashnikova

During laser-induced phase transitions, fast transformations of electronic, atomic, and spin configurations often involve the emergence of hidden and metastable phases. Being inaccessible under any other stimuli, such phases are indispensable for unveiling mechanisms and controlling the transitions. We experimentally explore spin kinetics during the ultrafast first-order 90° spin-reorientation (SR) transition in a canted antiferromagnet Fe_{3}BO_{6}, and reveal that the transition is controlled by canting between the magnetic sublattices. Laser-induced perturbation of the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction results in a change of the intersublattice canting within the first picoseconds, bringing Fe_{3}BO_{6} to a hidden phase. Once this phase emerges, laser-induced heating activates precessional 90° spin switching. The combination of spin canting and heating controls the final spin configuration comprising coexisting initial and switched phases. The extended phase coexistence range is in striking contrast to the narrow SR transition in Fe_{3}BO_{6} induced by conventional heating.

  • SPATIO-FREQUENCY SIGNAL SELECTION IN YIG STRUCTURE WITH CROSS-SHAPED WAVEGUIDE CONFIGURATION AND CENTRAL RING RESONATOR

    by A.A. Solyanov, P.A. Zhironkin, V.D. Klusov, A.V. Sadovnikov

The paper investigates spatio-frequency selection of spin waves in a complex yttrium iron garnet (YIG) structure with crossed waveguides and a central ring resonator using micromagnetic modeling methods. The influence of the ring resonator on the formation of narrow transmission bands and channels for redistribution of spin wave energy between different arms of the structure is shown. The possibility of dynamic control of signal propagation channels by changing the orientation of the external magnetic field is demonstrated. The results are promising for creating reconfigurable magnonic devices such as filters and multiplexers.
