Aptamer-Based Biosensors for Rapid Detection and Early Warning of Food Contaminants: From Selection to Field Applications
Aptamer-based biosensors have emerged as an important and promising technology for applications in food safety, environmental monitoring, and pharmaceutical analysis. Obtained via Systematic evolution of ligands by exponential enrichment (SELEX) screening, these recognition elements exhibit antibody-comparable affinity and specificity, alongside superior chemical stability, easy synthesis, and broad target adaptability. Substantial advances in the field have been marked by the systematic development of food contaminant-specific aptamers, elucidation of their binding mechanisms, and construction of versatile biosensing platforms. The integration of these aptamers with conventional electrochemical and optical sensors has substantially enhanced detection sensitivity and lowered detection limits, particularly for trace-level analytes in complex food matrices. Furthermore, the integration of aptamer technology with novel nanomaterials has facilitated the development of high-performance detection platforms for a wide range of food contaminants, including heavy metals, antibiotics, foodborne pathogens, mycotoxins, pesticides, and food additives. This review systematically summarizes recent advances in SELEX techniques for aptamer screening, highlights the application of aptamer-based biosensors in detecting these contaminants, and discusses current challenges and future prospects in the field of food safety, which establishes a comprehensive framework to advance aptamer-based biosensing technologies for rapid detection and early warning in food safety monitoring.

Sensor-combined organ-on-a-chip for pharmaceutical and medical sciences: from design and materials to typical biomedical applications
Organ-on-a-chip (OoC) is a breakthrough technology in biomedicine. As microphysiological systems constructed in vitro, OoCs can simulate the main structures and functions of human organs, thereby providing a powerful tool for drug screening and disease model construction. Furthermore, the coupling of OoCs and sensors has been an innovative discovery in the field of biomedical and electronic engineering in recent years. The integration of sensors into OoCs allows the real-time monitoring of the changes in the microenvironmental parameters within the chip, reflecting the physiological responses of cells or tissues in the OoC and providing more accurate data support for drug development and disease treatment. In this work, we briefly outline the design ideas of OoCs, summarize the commonly used materials for OoCs and their advantages and disadvantages, and provide the most recent practical examples of the combination of OoCs and sensors in pharmaceutical and medical sciences. Furthermore, perspectives, challenges and their solutions in the future development of this technology are provided, with the aim to inspire the researchers to work toward the subsequent development of OoCs having improved reliability.

Targeted drug delivery vehicles mediated by nanocarriers and aptamers for posterior eye disease therapeutics: barriers, recent advances and potential opportunities
Nanomedicine and aptamer have excellent potential in giving play to passive and active targeting respectively, which are considered to be effective strategies in the retro-ocular drug delivery system. The presence of closely adjoined tissue structures in the eye makes it difficult to administer the drug in the posterior segment of the eye. The application of nanomedicine could represent a new avenue for the treatment, since it could improve penetration, achieve targeted release, and improve bioavailability. Additionally, a novel type of targeted molecule aptamer with identical objective was proposed. As an emerging molecule, aptamer shows the advantages of penetration, non-toxicity, and high biocompatibility, which make it suitable for ocular drug administration. The purpose of this paper is to summarize the recent studies on the effectiveness of nanoparticles as a drug delivery to the posterior segment of the eye. This paper also creatively looks forward to the possibility of the combined application of nanocarriers and aptamers as a new method of targeted drug delivery system in the field of post-ophthalmic therapy.
