Fast Heterogeneous Clutter Suppression Method Based on Improved Sparse Bayesian Learning
In order to deal with the problem space-time adaptive processing (STAP) performance degradation of an airborne phased array system caused by the serious shortage of independent and identical distributed (IID) training samples in the nonhomogeneous clutter environment, an improved direct data domain method based on sparse Bayesian learning is proposed in this paper, which only uses a single snapshot data of a cell under test (CUT) to suppress the clutter and has fast computational speed. Firstly, three hyper-parameters required to obtain the sparse solution are derived. Secondly, the comparative analysis of their iterative formulas is made, and the piecewise iteration of hyper-parameter that has an obvious influence on the computational complexity of obtaining sparse solution is presented. Lastly, with the approximate prior information of the target, the clutter sparse solution is given and its covariance matrix is effectively estimated to calculate the adaptive filter weight and realize the clutter suppression. Simulation results verify that the proposal can dramatically decrease the computational burden while keeping the superior heterogeneous clutter suppression performance.

Robust Space–Time Joint Sparse Processing Method with Airborne Active Array for Severely Inhomogeneous Clutter Suppression
Due to clutter inhomogeneity, the clutter suppression ability of space–time adaptive processing (STAP) is usually constrained by the insufficient number of independent and identically distributed (IID) clutter training samples and, as a result, is sacrificed to achieve the demanded sample reduction. Moreover, since clutter heterogeneity is exacerbated in the real environment, the IID training sample size can be heavily reduced, leading to the deterioration in clutter suppression. To solve this problem, a novel robust space–time joint sparse processing method with airborne active array is proposed. This method has several outstanding advantages: (1) only the single snapshot cell under test (CUT) data is used for the superior clutter suppression performance; and (2) the proposed method completely removes the dependence of the system processing ability on IID training samples. In this paper, the signal model of uniform transmitting subarray diversity is first established to obtain the single snapshot echo observed CUT data. Then, with the matched reconstruction, the single snapshot data are equivalently converted into multi-frame echo data. Finally, a fast multi-frame echo data joint sparse Bayesian algorithm is used to achieve heterogeneous clutter suppression. Numerous experiments were performed to verify the advantages of the proposed method.

Feature Learning for SAR Target Recognition with Unknown Classes by Using CVAE-GAN
Even though deep learning (DL) has achieved excellent results on some public data sets for synthetic aperture radar (SAR) automatic target recognition(ATR), several problems exist at present. One is the lack of transparency and interpretability for most of the existing DL networks. Another is the neglect of unknown target classes which are often present in practice. To solve the above problems, a deep generation as well as recognition model is derived based on Conditional Variational Auto-encoder (CVAE) and Generative Adversarial Network (GAN). A feature space for SAR-ATR is built based on the proposed CVAE-GAN model. By using the feature space, clear SAR images can be generated with given class labels and observation angles. Besides, the feature of the SAR image is continuous in the feature space and can represent some attributes of the target. Furthermore, it is possible to classify the known classes and reject the unknown target classes by using the feature space. Experiments on the MSTAR data set validate the advantages of the proposed method.

A Novel Interference Detection Method of STAP Based on Simplified TT Transform
Training samples contaminated by target‐like signals is one of the major reasons for inhomogeneous clutter environment. In such environment, clutter covariance matrix in STAP (space‐time adaptive processing) is estimated inaccurately, which finally leads to detection performance reduction. In terms of this problem, a STAP interference detection method based on simplified TT (time‐time) transform is proposed in this letter. Considering the sparse physical property of clutter in the space‐time plane, data on each range cell is first converted into a discrete slow time series. Then, the expression of simplified TT transform about sample data is derived step by step. Thirdly, the energy of each training sample is focalized and extracted by simplified TT transform from energy‐variant difference between the unpolluted and polluted stage, and the physical significance of discarding the contaminated samples is analyzed. Lastly, the contaminated samples are picked out in light of the simplified TT transform‐spectrum difference. The result on Monte Carlo simulation indicates that when training samples are contaminated by large power target‐like signals, the proposed method is more effective in getting rid of the contaminated samples, reduces the computational complexity significantly, and promotes the target detection performance compared with the method of GIP (generalized inner product).
