Stand-Alone Operation of Multi-Phase Doubly-Fed Induction Generator Supplied by SiC-Based Current Source Converter
This paper investigates the performance of a five-phase silicon carbide (SiC)-based current-source converter (CSC) integrated with a Doubly Fed Induction Generator (DFIG) for wind energy applications. The study explores both healthy and faulty operation, focusing on system behavior under transient conditions and various load scenarios in stand-alone mode. A novel five-phase space vector PWM strategy in dual coordinate planes is introduced, which enables stable control during normal and open-phase fault conditions. Experimental results demonstrate improved stator voltage and current quality, particularly in terms of reduced Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), compared to traditional voltage-source converter-based systems. Furthermore, the system maintains operational stability under a single-phase open fault, despite increased oscillations in stator quantities. The results highlight the potential of five-phase CSC-DFIG systems as a robust and efficient alternative for wind power plants, particularly in configurations involving long cable connections and requiring low generator losses. Future work will focus on enhancing fault-tolerant capabilities and expanding control strategies for improved performance under different operating conditions.

Feedback Control of Doubly-Fed Generator Connected to Current Source Converter
Doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG) system supplied by current source converter (CSC) is considered in this article. The DFIG can work in two independent modes: AC grid connection and stand-alone mode. The DFIG is connected to the ac grid directly through its stator and the CSC links the rotor side. In this mode, the active and reactive powers of the DFIG must be controlled. This article proposes two control system structures for the DFIG working in the generator mode. Both control structures are based on nonlinear transformations but on different state-feedback control variables. The selection of the variables is similar to the input–output linearization but more complicated due to the CSC and “voltage control” involved. Both proposed control structures ensure independent control of the active and reactive powers with different accuracies; as evidenced in the simulation and experimental results. The proposed approach can be named by voltage control of the DFIG because the control variables are the voltage in the dc-link and the angular speed of the output current vector from the inverter. For both proposed control structures, the current in the dc-link is not a constant value, but depends on the dynamic states and values of the controlled powers; thus, it varies accordingly. The proposed control strategy can be applied to low- and high-power DFIG systems. Simulation and experimental results from a 2-kW generator validate theoretical propositions.

Steady-State Vibration Level Measurement of the Five-Phase Induction Machine during Third Harmonic Injection or Open-Phase Faults
Multiphase electric machines are increasingly used in various industries and for electromobility. Complex systems have been developed for the control and powering of multiphase machines, which require verification. The quality of control and the power supply of electric machines is usually evaluated by analyzing various electrical parameters. On the other hand, taking into account the fact that a motor is an electrical-mechanical object, its full diagnostics should also include the analysis of vibration signals to verify the operation of the motor as a mechanical device. In this paper, a sensorless control algorithm was studied and applied to a 5-phase induction motor. Various scenarios were considered; in particular, the operation of the studied motor in the absence of one or two phases and in the case of the introduction of the third harmonic to increase the torque was analyzed. In the scenarios considered, the motor was connected to another machine and operated with no load as well as with a preset load. The results obtained were analyzed in the time and frequency domain and were related to the standards used.

Control Strategy of a Five-Phase Induction Machine Supplied by the Current Source Inverter With the Third Harmonic Injection
In the five-phase induction machine (IM), it is possible to better use the electromagnetic circuit than in the three-phase IM. This requires the use of an adequate converter system which will be supplied by an induction machine. The electric drive system described, in this article, includes the five-phase induction machine supplied by the current source inverter (CSI). The proposed novelty—not presented previously—is the control system structures for the five-phase IM, which is supplied by CSI. The proposed control systems allow for independent control of IM state variables in the first and the second system plane to inject the third harmonic. However, the third harmonic must be suitably associated with the fundamental harmonic. In the proposed solution, the machine vector model is not transformed into the ( d–q ) coordinate system that is connected to the rotor flux vector but utilizes the stationary system ( α–β ). The nonlinear model linearization is based on the demonstrated nonlinear variables transformation for i-orthogonal ( α–β ) (i) planes. Voltage control is applied to the control system structure. The control variables of the five-phase IM are the voltage in the dc link and the angular speed of the output current vector. In the control strategy, the control variables are determined for both system planes. Therefore, the transformation of these control variables to the dc link of CSI is proposed. The proposed control structure allows for independent control of variables in the first and second system planes. It leads to the possibility to increase the value of electromagnetic torque up to 12% for the five-phase IM, which has not been used before in the case of the machine supplied by the CSI. All theoretical issues are confirmed by experimental tests in the 5.5 kW five-phase IM.

Feedback Control of Multiphase Induction Machines With Backstepping Technique
The paper presents the control possibility of five phase induction machines. In the proposed solution the machine model vector form is not transformed to the (dq)-coordinate system, that is connected to rotor flux vector, but utilizes the stationary system ( $\alpha\beta$ ). Moreover, the nonlinear model linearization is based on demonstrated nonlinear variables transformation for i-orthogonal ( $\alpha\beta$ )(n) planes. By introducing the backstepping approach, the independent stabilization of electromagnetic torque and rotor flux in each plane is obtained. A practical stability analysis of the proposed controller for a multi-phase machine is illustrated as well. Finally, experimental test results are demonstrated for a specific speed sensorless five phase induction motor test setup- 31 July 2019

Sensorless field oriented control for five-phase induction motors with third harmonic injection and fault insensitive feature
The paper presents a solution for sensorless field oriented control (FOC) system for five-phase induction motors with improved rotor flux pattern. In order to obtain the advantages of a third harmonic injection with a quasi-trapezoidal flux shape, two vector models, α1–β1 and α3–β3, were transformed into d1–q1, d3–q3 rotating frames, which correlate to the 1st and 3rd harmonic plane respectively. A linearization approach of the dual machine model in d–q coordinate frames is proposed by introducing a new additional variable “x” which is proportional to the electromagnetic torque. By applying the static feedback control law, a dual mathematical model of the five-phase induction motor was linearized to synthesize a control system in which the electromagnetic torque and the rotor flux can be independently controlled. The results shows the air gap flux shape in steady as well transient states under various load conditions. Moreover, the implemented control structure acquires fault tolerant properties and leads to possible emergency running with limited operation capabilities. The fault-tolerant capability of the analyzed machine was guaranteed by a special implemented control system with a dedicated speed observer, which is insensitive to open-phase fault situation. The experimental tests have been performed with single and double-open stator phase fault. A torque measurement was implemented to present the mechanical characteristics under healthy and faulty conditions of the drive system.
