Autonomous vehicles with augmented reality internet of things and edge intelligence system for industry 5.0 based on 6G

by Amjed A. Ahmed, Aqeel Kamil Kadhim, Mohammad Kamrul Hasan, Sumaia M. Al-Ghuribi, Dhafar Hamed Abd, Salah A. Aliesawi, Belal Abdullah Hezam Murshed, Luke Topham, Wasiq Khan, Abir Jaafar Hussain

In an era of rapidly evolving technology, traditional cloud computing struggles to meet the demands of resource-intensive smart devices. This necessitates a shift towards Edge Computing (EC), which brings computation and data storage closer to the network’s edge, enhancing efficiency and reducing latency. This is particularly crucial for the Internet of Things (IoT), where supporting mobility, location awareness, and real-time processing are paramount. However, the scalability of EC applications is significantly influenced by network parameters and the capabilities of the computing system. This paper proposes a novel system architecture for Industry 5.0 that leverages the synergy between 6G networks, autonomous vehicles, Augmented Reality (AR), IoT, and edge intelligence to revolutionize transportation systems. Our approach integrates AR for enhanced user interfaces, utilizes IoT for data acquisition and control, and employs edge computing for real-time decision-making. Our experimental results demonstrate a strong correlation between processing speed and network bandwidth. While increasing either parameter individually enhances overall system performance. The two-tier architecture, combined with the Entity Objects (EO) model, demonstrates superior scalability compared to traditional approaches. By distributing processing tasks and leveraging the resources of other edge servers, the system can handle increasing numbers of AVs and data loads without compromising performance.

MOBCSA: Multi-Objective Binary Cuckoo Search Algorithm for Features Selection in Bioinformatics

by Hudhaifa Mohammed Abdulwahab, S. Ajitha, Mufeed Ahmed Naji Saif, Belal Abdullah Hezam Murshed, Fahd A. Ghanem

In bioinformatics, medical diagnosis models might be significantly impacted by high-dimensional data generated by high-throughput technologies. This data includes redundant or irrelevant genes making it challenging to identify the relevant genes from such high-dimensional data. Therefore, an effective feature selection (FS) technique can significantly reduce the degree of dimensionality to enhance the performance and accuracy of medical diagnosis. Cuckoo Search Algorithm (CSA) is applied for gene selection and found to be effective in terms of exploitation, exploration, and convergence. However, most of the current CSA-based FS techniques deal with gene selection problem as a single objective rather than a multi-objective mechanism. This article proposes a Multi-Objective Binary Cuckoo Search Algorithm (MOBCSA) for gene selection. The MOBCSA extends the standard CSA considering multiple objectives such as accuracy of classification and number of selected genes. MOBCSA utilizes S-shaped transfer function for transforming the algorithm’s search space from a continuous to a binary search space. MOBCSA integrates two components: an external archive to save the pareto optimal solutions attained during the search process and an adaptive crowding distance updating mechanism integrated into the archive to maintain diversity and increase the coverage of optimal solutions. To evaluate the performance of MOBCSA, the evaluation experiments were conducted on six benchmark biomedical datasets using three different classifiers. Then, the obtained experimental results were compared against four multi-objective-based state of the art FS methods. The findings prove that MOBCSA surpasses the other methods in both accuracy of classification and number of selected genes, where it has obtained an average accuracy ranging from 92.79% to 98.42% and an average number of selected genes ranging from 15.67 to 27.88 for different classifiers and datasets.

To Cluster or Not to Cluster: The Impact of Clustering on the Performance of Aspect-Based Collaborative Filtering

by Sumaia Mohammed Al-Ghuribi, Shahrul Azman Mohd Noah, Mawal A. Mohammed, Sultan Noman Qasem, Belal Abdullah Hezam Murshed

Collaborative filtering (CF) is one of the most widely utilised approaches in recommendation techniques. It suggests items to users based on the ratings of other users who share their preferences. Thus, one of the aims of CF is to find reliable neighbours. Typically, CF produces a sparse user-item rating matrix, when relying only on the ratings to identify the precise neighbours, resulting in poor performance. User reviews can be essential in overcoming those situations because of the diverse elements available in reviews. The most popular element is aspects, which can provide a fine-grained analysis of users’ behaviours, thus improving personalised recommendations. However, increasing the number of aspects also results in sparsity, therefore may deteriorate the recommendation performance. As a result, clustering of aspects may lessen this sparsity, but it is yet unclear how much this would affect the performance of CF systems. This study proposes a CF approach based on aspect clustering that addresses the above issue in terms of rating prediction. The approach aims to reduce the sparseness in the multi-criteria rating matrix by grouping aspects into clusters based on their semantic similarity, which will be less expensive and require less memory to discover the neighbourhood set. Our approach extracts aspects and represents them using Google’s pre-trained Word2vec model. Then, aspects are organised into clusters using the K-means clustering algorithm. Multi-dimensional Euclidean distance is used as a similarity measure for finding the appropriate neighbours and predicted ratings of unseen items are then made using the kNN algorithm. This study also identifies the number of aspects that significantly impacts CF performance. Experiments are carried out using a real large-scale dataset: the Amazon movie dataset. Evaluation is also performed by comparing CF performance of the proposed approach with three different baseline approaches. Results show that the proposed approach improves CF performance compared to other approaches in terms of three predictive accuracy metrics.

A Hybrid Stacked Restricted Boltzmann Machine with Sobel Directional Patterns for Melanoma Prediction in Colored Skin Images

by A. Sherly Alphonse, J. V. Bibal Benifa, Abdullah Y. Muaad, Channabasava Chola, Belal Bin Heyat, Belal Abdullah Hezam Murshed, Nagwan Abdel Samee, Maali Alabdulhafith, Mugahed A. Al-Antari

Melanoma, a kind of skin cancer that is very risky, is distinguished by uncontrolled cell multiplication. Melanoma detection is of the utmost significance in clinical practice because of the atypical border structure and the numerous types of tissue it can involve. The identification of melanoma is still a challenging process for color images, despite the fact that numerous approaches have been proposed in the research that has been done. In this research, we present a comprehensive system for the efficient and precise classification of skin lesions. The framework includes preprocessing, segmentation, feature extraction, and classification modules. Preprocessing with DullRazor eliminates skin-imaging hair artifacts. Next, Fully Connected Neural Network (FCNN) semantic segmentation extracts precise and obvious Regions of Interest (ROIs). We then extract relevant skin image features from ROIs using an enhanced Sobel Directional Pattern (SDP). For skin image analysis, Sobel Directional Pattern outperforms ABCD. Finally, a stacked Restricted Boltzmann Machine (RBM) classifies skin ROIs. Stacked RBMs accurately classify skin melanoma. The experiments have been conducted on five datasets: Pedro Hispano Hospital (PH2), International Skin Imaging Collaboration (ISIC 2016), ISIC 2017, Dermnet, and DermIS, and achieved an accuracy of 99.8%, 96.5%, 95.5%, 87.9%, and 97.6%, respectively. The results show that a stack of Restricted Boltzmann Machines is superior for categorizing skin cancer types using the proposed innovative SDP.

by Belal Abdullah Hezam Murshed, Suresha Mallappa, Jemal Abawajy, Mufeed Ahmed Naji Saif, Hasib Daowd Esmail Al-Ariki, Hudhaifa Mohammed Abdulwahab

Social media platforms such as (Twitter, Facebook, and Weibo) are being increasingly embraced by individuals, groups, and organizations as a valuable source of information. This social media generated information comes in the form of tweets or posts, and normally characterized as short text, huge, sparse, and low density. Since many real-world applications need semantic interpretation of such short texts, research in Short Text Topic Modeling (STTM) has recently gained a lot of interest to reveal unique and cohesive latent topics. This article examines the current state of the art in STTM algorithms. It presents a comprehensive survey and taxonomy of STTM algorithms for short text topic modelling. The article also includes a qualitative and quantitative study of the STTM algorithms, as well as analyses of the various strengths and drawbacks of STTM techniques. Moreover, a comparative analysis of the topic quality and performance of representative STTM models is presented. The performance evaluation is conducted on two real-world Twitter datasets: the Real-World Pandemic Twitter (RW-Pand-Twitter) dataset and Real-world Cyberbullying Twitter (RW-CB-Twitter) dataset in terms of several metrics such as topic coherence, purity, NMI, and accuracy. Finally, the open challenges and future research directions in this promising field are discussed to highlight the trends of research in STTM. The work presented in this paper is useful for researchers interested in learning state-of-the-art short text topic modelling and researchers focusing on developing new algorithms for short text topic modelling.

Enhancing Big Social Media Data Quality for Use in Short-Text Topic Modeling

by Belal Abdullah Hezam Murshed, Jemal Abawajy, Suresha Mallappa, Mufeed Ahmed Naji Saif, Sumaia Mohammed Al-Ghuribi, Fahd A. Ghanem

With the emergence of microblogging platforms and social media applications, large amounts of user-generated data in the form of comments, reviews, and brief text messages are produced every day. Microblog data is typically of poor quality; hence improving the quality of the data is a significant scientific and practical challenge. In spite of the relevance of the problem, there has been not much work so far, especially in regard to microblog data quality for Short-Text Topic Modelling (STTM) purposes. This paper addresses this problem and proposes an approach called the social media data cleansing model (SMDCM) to improve data quality for STTM. We evaluate SMDCM using six topic modelling methods, namely the Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA), Word-Network Topic Model (WNTM), Pseudo-document-based Topic Modelling (PTM), Biterm Topic Model (BTM), Global and Local word embedding-based Topic Modeling (GLTM), and Fuzzy Topic modelling (FTM). We used the Real-world Cyberbullying Twitter (RW-CB-Twitter) and the Cyberbullying Mendeley (CB-MNDLY) datasets in the evaluation. The results proved the efficiency of the GLTM and WNTM over the other STTM models when applying the SMDCM techniques, which achieved optimum topic coherence and high accuracy values on RW-CB-Twitter and CB-MNDLY datasets.
