Towards Robust Semantic Segmentation of Land Covers in Foggy Conditions
When conducting land cover classification, it is inevitable to encounter foggy conditions, which degrades the performance by a large margin. Robustness may be reduced by a number of factors, such as aerial images of low quality and ineffective fusion of multimodal representations. Hence, it is crucial to establish a reliable framework that can robustly understand remote sensing image scenes. Based on multimodal fusion and attention mechanisms, we leverage HRNet to extract underlying features, followed by the Spectral and Spatial Representation Learning Module to extract spectral-spatial representations. A Multimodal Representation Fusion Module is proposed to bridge the gap between heterogeneous modalities which can be fused in a complementary manner. A comprehensive evaluation study of the fog-corrupted Potsdam and Vaihingen test sets demonstrates that the proposed method achieves a mean exceeding 73%, indicating a promising performance compared to State-Of-The-Art methods in terms of robustness.- 12 September 2022

Attention-Based Context Aware Network for Semantic Comprehension of Aerial Scenery
It is essential for researchers to have a proper interpretation of remote sensing images (RSIs) and precise semantic labeling of their component parts. Although FCN (Fully Convolutional Networks)-like deep convolutional network architectures have been widely applied in the perception of autonomous cars, there are still two challenges in the semantic segmentation of RSIs. The first is to identify details in high-resolution images with complex scenes and to solve the class-mismatch issues; the second is to capture the edge of objects finely without being confused by the surroundings. HRNET has the characteristics of maintaining high-resolution representation by fusing feature information with parallel multi-resolution convolution branches. We adopt HRNET as a backbone and propose to incorporate the Class-Oriented Region Attention Module (CRAM) and Class-Oriented Context Fusion Module (CCFM) to analyze the relationships between classes and patch regions and between classes and local or global pixels, respectively. Thus, the perception capability of the model for the detailed part in the aerial image can be enhanced. We leverage these modules to develop an end-to-end semantic segmentation model for aerial images and validate it on the ISPRS Potsdam and Vaihingen datasets. The experimental results show that our model improves the baseline accuracy and outperforms some commonly used CNN architectures.

State-of-Health Prediction for Lithium-Ion Batteries Based on a Novel Hybrid Approach
Generally, the State-of-Health (SOH) monitoring and Remaining Useful Life (RUL) prediction and assessment of lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries need to use sensors to obtain the degradation test data of the same type of batteries and establish the degradation model for reference. However, when the battery type is unknown, a usable reference model cannot be obtained, so its prediction and evaluation may be relatively inconvenient. In this paper, the State of-Health prediction for lithium-ion batteries based on a novel hybrid scheme is proposed. Firstly, historical charge/discharge time series and capacity series are extracted to analyze and construct Health Indicators, then using Complete Ensemble Empirical Mode Decomposition with Adaptive Noise (CEEMDAN) to decompose the Health Indicator series into the trend and non-trend terms. Among them, the relatively smooth trend item data series uses the Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average model (ARIMA) for prediction; when dealing with the data series of non-trend items which are obviously non-smooth and seemingly random, the residuals predicted by ARIMA and the non-trend items obtained by CEEMDAN decomposition are combined into new non-trend items; then the least square support vector machine (LSSVM) is introduced to build a nonlinear prediction model and make predictions. Finally, combining the prediction results of the trend item data series and the non-trend item data series as a reference for the assessment of the state of health and remaining useful life. The 13 experimental results of 3 batteries verify the effectiveness of the scheme.
