Effect of ATP Addition to Goat Semen Post Thaw on Semen Parameters
In post-thaw goat spermatozoa the impact of ATP supplementation at different dose levels on motility and the other sperm parameters was evaluated during 4 hours of incubation. The ejaculate was frozen in 0.25ml straws by using egg yolk-glucose-glycerol-tris-citric acid extender. Thawing was achieved at 37°C for 30 second in a water bath and sperm cells were rediluted, following the removal of the extender, in tris-citric acid-glucose solution before adding 0 (control), 2, 4 or 8 mM of ATP. Eight of 10 parameters that were examined by the computer assisted sperm analyzer has been influenced by ATP supplementation (P

Sericin-Enriched Rabbit Semen Preservation: Implications for Short-Term Storage Quality and Fertility at 4 or 15 °C
The influence of sericin supplementation and chilling temperatures (4 and 15 °C) on the short-term storage quality and fertility of rabbit semen was assessed over 72 h of storage. In experiment 1, pooled semen (five replications) was diluted to a concentration of 50 M mL−1, and assigned to control, 0.1%, and 0.5% sericin groups, stored at 4 or 15 °C. Sperm motility, sperm kinematics, viability, and membrane and acrosome integrity were assessed at 0, 24, 48, and 72 h of storage. Experiments 2 and 3 were conducted to observe the effect of sericin on bacterial growth and in vivo fertility. The results of experiment 1 showed that sericin treatment, storage temperature, and storage duration influenced progressive and total sperm motility. The storage duration affected all sperm kinematics variables, whereas VCL, VSL, VAP, and BCF sperm kinematics altered in response to sericin treatment and storage temperature. Similarly, significant effects of sericin treatment, storage temperature, and storage duration were observed for acrosome integrity, sperm membrane integrity, and sperm viability. The results of experiment 2 indicated the antimicrobial effects of sericin when sperm were stored at 15 °C for 72 h. While promising pregnancy outcomes were observed with sericin-treated sperm for 72 h, these results were not significantly different. This study conclusively demonstrates that sericin treatment enhances the quality of rabbit semen when stored at lower temperatures for longer durations. The antimicrobial effects of sericin could be a contributing factor to the improved in vitro and in vivo fertility of rabbit sperm.

Effect of Dietary Supplementation of Nano Zinc on Performance, Egg Characteristics, Sperm Quality and Hatching Parameters in Breeding Quails

En tr This study was conducted to determine the effects of using nano selenium (Se) on breeding quail rations on reproductive performance, weight gain, egg quality, sperm quality, hatching parameters and liver. A total of 80 (20 males and 60 females), 10 week old quails (Coturnix coturnix Japonica) were used in the study. The animals were divided into two groups as control (K - inorganic sodium selenite) and experiment (D - nano sodium selenite) with 10 replicates each having one male and three female. The use of nano Se does not have any significant effect on productive performance, weight gain and feed consumption. However, it decreased the egg weight (P < 0.01) and the yellow color (P < 0.05) and, increased the shell weight (P < 0.001), Haugh unit and shell index (P < 0.01). No significant effect was determined in the shell thickness. Nano Se increased head defects (P < 0.05) in spermatozoa but did not affect other morphological parameters. Nano Se decreased the fertility and hatchability of total eggs (P < 0.05), while other hatching parameters were not affected. Histopathologically the hepatic changes in experiment group were characterized by fat vacuoles. As a result, the use of 0.2 mg/kg nano Se in breeding quail rations generally has a negative effect. For this reason nano Se may be recommended to use at lower levels.
